SHUYA OKINO (DJ SET)

Shuya Okino booking kyoto jazz massive

Shuya Okino is a music curator, songwriter, author and the owner of the renowned music venue The Room, in Tokyo. He is the leader and founding member of Kyoto Jazz Massive who released their first album in 1994. Kyoto Jazz Massive first made history as the only Japanese artists ever to have a single at No.1 on the BBC Radio ZUBB chart for 3 consecutive weeks with 'Eclipse' which was on their second album ’Spirit of the Sun’, 2002. These albums made Kyoto Jazz Massive one of the most influential groups in the crossover scene worldwide and Shuya has performed in over 40 countries and 140 cities.

In 2009 Shuya released his first solo project 'United Legends', given this title as it brought together legends in crossover music such as Josh Milan, Dego, Yukimi Nagano and Piranhahead. His second solo album 'Destiny’ in 2011 included the Rose Royce cover 'Still in Love' featuring Navasha Daya, which is still a festival anthem eight years later.

Kyoto Jazz Sextet is Shuya Okino's jazz project. In 2015 they released their 1st album 'Mission' debuting from Blue Note Japan. Kyoto Jazz Sextet released their second album 'Unity', again from Blue Note Japan, in 2017. This album featured former Fertile Ground's Navasha Daya (niece of Gil Scott Heron), Soil & "Pimp" Sessions' Tabu Zombie and Tomoki Sanders (Pharaoh Sanders' son).

In July of that year the band appeared at Fuji Rock Festival, one of the biggest outdoor festivals in the world.

New 12inch 'You've Got To Have Freedom', two 10 inch 'Rising (Ron Trent Remix)' and 'Mission (Jaxx Madicine Remix)' from Local Talk were released in Nov, 2018.
